Malaysia 12th Election

Ruling coalition was dealt a string of defeats in Saturday's general elections, the opposition gained control of five of Malaysia's 13 states and a third of its parliament in the biggest electoral upset in the country's history. Five states Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan had opposition majority in state assembly. National Front coalition lost its two-thirds majority in the 222-member parliament for the first time in four decades, winning only a simple majority of 139 seats .

Opposition managed to achieve their objective of denying National Front two third majority in parliament , effectively stop ruling party monopoly in amending Malaysia's Constitution at will in which hundred of amendments has been passed since independence, where minority citizens' right is not treated equally under the constitution, all non-Malay citizens are considered as non-bumiputra (third class citizen) in their own country by present government, official policy of racial discrimination on minority citizens mainly Chinese and Indian decent is perfectly legal and welcome by the majority. ( Similar to South Africa apartheid system or early era in USA after the emancipation of proclamation where non white citizens are treated as lower class .)

Malaysians of Chinese and Indian decent are angry about an affirmative action program known as the New Economic Policy (has been twisted out of the original version that used to eradicate poverty among all Malaysians) that has given Malays preferences in jobs, education, business, housing, finance and religion since 1971. Their religious rights are also being eroded by the government. Several Hindu temples and Taoist shrines were destroyed by islamic affair department in past few year, purportedly for illegal construction, and many Islamic courts presiding over religious disputes between muslim n non muslim ruled in favor of muslims.

Three month ago, Hindus Malaysians were beaten in KL, sprayed with chemical -lace water cannon and tear gas by muslim police when they held a peaceful rally to protest against official racial discrimination and systematic destruction of their temples. Five of their leaders were jailed under draconian law (ISA) by trump up charges of terrorism that allows indefinite detention without trial.

Humor for all:

There are three major races in Malaysia - Malay, Chinese and Indian.Three major party in the national front coalition claimed to represent them.

The Malays have the political power and their party UMNO - which literally means "U Must Not Object".

The Chinese, on the other hand, controls most of the economy, their party MCA - "Money Conquers All".

Then there are the Indians who have no say in politics or economics, their party called MIC- so every parliamentary meeting the Indians would ask: "Must I Come?"

Cheer!
