NEP

Recent announcement of setting aside New Economic Policy in awarding Penang state contracts by newly elected state government has attracted Malay racist groups protesting newly adopted open tender system, majority of these thugs are members of UMNO racist party who are so used to former state government special treatment and privilege accorded to them in acquiring contracts, they are seeing the doing away of NEP as stripping away their "Malay Supremacy" status in Penang which has never happen in any state from the past 50 years since Malaysia independence from British colonist.

Ever since it was announced by the Penang state government, these thugs with their UMNO racist master had been making all sorts of complaints in trying to turn the new open tender system into a racial issue in Malaysia, some of them even demanded federal government to withhold funding for Penang development, various threats are announced by UMNO racist ministers, police reports are lodged on chief minister and members of his team for making "seditious speech" in doing away with this outdated and racial discriminatory policy.

The New Economy Policy is the brainchild of late Tuanku Abdul Rahman after deadly May 13th race riots right after opposition party won substantial seats in parliament ,the main goal of NEP is to eradicate poverty in Malaysia society regardless of race and religion, which practically is a policy with noble cause.

But during the year of Dr M administration, the original objectives in NEP has been deviated by government agency, it was altered by then into becoming a tool for distributing political patronage among royal supporters and cronies, with its continuing enforcement during the past 22 years by DR M, in combination of National Development Policy, the indigent and low income segment of Malaysians are further marginalized resulted in disproportional distribution of the nation wealth among its citizens, which probably has contributed to the high Gini-Coefficient index in the country development process. It is a well know fact this altered NEP managed to enrich many of the UMNO racist party ministers and their cronies, together with small percentage of non-Malay contractors who are well connected and have access to the inner circus of the dominant party government officials.

At last, we get to see a state has the courage to dismantle racial discriminatory policy in Malaysia, taking the lead in putting the country back on track in its economy development which presumably will increase the country competitiveness and encourage more transparency in government contracts procurement process.
