Internal Security Act - One of the most fear law among citizens of Malaysia.
Ever since independence, Umno dominance BN government routinely used it as political weapon to suppress and silent voices of opposition and civil right leaders in the name of national security. The detainees are mainly make up of political prisoners and suspected members of terrorist organization.
Recent addition to the ISA roll are 5 leaders of the Hindu Right Action Force who organized a peaceful rally against racial inequality, government discrimination policy against Indian Malaysians and systematic destruction of Hindu temples by authority. All are being detained without trial under a two years term with a frame up charge of connection with a foreign terrorist organization.
Person detained under the ISA during the first 60 days is held incommunicado, with NO access to the outside world. Furthermore, lawyers and family members are NOT allowed access to the detainee during this initial period.
If a two years detention order is signed, detainee is taken to the Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak, Malaysia to serve his two years term, during which family members are allowed to visit, otherwise, he may be released.
The sole authority of whether continue incarceration of detainee solely rest on the whim of Prime Minister, who is also the minister of internal security after the two years period.
give no room for the court to question the validity of the alleged crime, disregard of the citizen constitutional right to due process of law.
